What makes TISS HRM Program different from the rest?

TISS HRM Program

The M.A. Human Resources program at TISS is meant to transform students into professionally competent and socially sensitive management graduates fully equipped to tackle the changes in the corporate world. This programme presents an impressive prospect to explore the critical areas of up to date human resources management, together with comprehensive knowledge and understanding of the key functions of management and business.

Students undertake internships with the organizations for a period ranging from 6-8 weeks, where the students not only learn but also contribute to the organizations.

The effort is to build a bridge between concept and practice so that students can appreciate the complex, human reality of organisations. Students are encouraged to research the mentorship of faculty members to gain an in-depth understanding of the concepts and apply them in real case scenario. The curriculum is supplemented by a range of contemporary workshops and on-field sessions which makes the students ready by the time they join the organisation. The effort is to nurture a student who has passed through multiple stages of learning and can connect learnings with real-world problems.

TISS HRM PLACEMENTS

The final placements for the batch of 2020 are as below: –

Highest Salary- 32.79 lacs per annum

Median Salary – 20.25 lacs per annum

Average salary – 21.15 lacs per annum

Pre – Placement offers: 20

20% of the students received salaries more than 25 lacs per annum

50% of the students received salaries more than 20.25 lacs per annum

75% of the students received a salary of more than 24.25 lacs per annum

TISS HRM Curriculum

TISS HRM program has one of the best curriculum for the HR practice. The main objective is to build a bridge between concept and practice so that participants can analyze the complexity of the organizations. Participants are encouraged to undertake research under the mentorship of faculty members to relate to the practical aspects of management practices. In addition to this, there are a lot of workshops which are conducted to make sure that the students are industry-ready.  

Some of the unique subjects which the students study as part of their curriculum are, Labour Economics, Conflict Management, Organization Development and Change Management and Employer Branding.

Labour Economics

Through this course, students are exposed to empirical methods for applied microeconomic analysis. Some of the main topics which include are labour market discrimination, immigration, unemployment and wage structure.

Conflict Management

The main objective of this course is to teach students what conflict is and how to handle it efficiently. Some of the main topics include conflict resolution principles, assertiveness techniques and dealing with resistance.

Organization Development and Change Management

The main objective of this course is to introduce concepts like organization development, organizational assessment and assessment tools and techniques.

Employer Branding

This course is one of the interesting course which is part of the curriculum. Students are exposed to different channels, targeting and tools which will help them to effectively conceptualize marketing strategies to position the organization.

Batch Profile of TISS HRM Program

Backgrounds

Close to 52% of the students in the TISS MA-HRM program come from different backgrounds like commerce, Arts, Psychology and Science. And the remaining 50% of the students are from an engineering background.

Work Experience

Around 60% of the students have prior experience in the range from 0-11 months. 5% of the students have experience ranging from 12-23 months.12% with 24-35 months. 20% with more than 35 months. TISS makes sure that along with academic diversity, even gender diversity is also maintained. Around 56% are male and 44% are females, which is quite a good ratio in a B school. No specific educational background is preferred during the admission as such. 

TISS HRM Admission Process

The admission process is rigorous and is divided into two stages. 

a.) Entrance exam- Tissnet

b.) Group Interview and Personal Interview

Candidates need to do TISSNET Registration. The TISS entrance exam consists of two distinctive components. The first part is common to all those who apply for TISS. This evaluation component enables the admission team to identify the candidates who have an orientation towards social science. Part two is a bit specific. For the MA-HR program, the candidate is tested on the mathematical and technical skills, understanding of society and how it functions. Basic knowledge of economy, business news, current affairs, sociology, psychology. In the GDPI process, the candidate’s intent of joining the course is gauged, whether the candidate is interested in joining the course. The interview tests the presence of mind of the candidate. 

Candidates admitted to the institute are expected to have a balance between academic achievements, social sensitivity and a perspective on how human resources add value to the organizations. And on a broader perspective, candidates are expected to have an understanding of organizations as social systems. 

Expected job profiles after completing the TISS HRM program

After graduating from TISS, students work in different profiles in the HR sector in various organizations. The role also depends on the prior experience of the candidate. For example, a student with more than 3.5-4 years of experience would be working in the consulting industry. The career path starts from an HR manager in a corporate organization to country head (HR). Many students work for 6 -7 years in the industry and start their ventures.
