NMAT

NMAT or Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies (NMIMS) Management Aptitude Test is conducted by the Graduate Management Admission Council (GMAC). It is a national level exam MBA entrance exam and a good score in NMAT is a key to admission in flagship programs of NMIMS Mumbai, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad campus along with many other top colleges of India.

NMAT Exam Pattern

NMAT is a 2-hour Computer Based Test (CBT) consisting of three sections i.e., Language Skills, Quantitative Skills and Logical Reasoning. The number of questions in each section are equal. The candidates are required to attempt the sectional questions within the allocated time limit which is different for each section. The below table mentions the number of questions and allotted time for each of the three sections-

Section NameNumber of questionsAllotted time in minutes
Language Skills3628
Quantitative Skills3652
Logical Reasoning3640
Total108120

NMAT allows a candidate to select his/her preferred section order, which means one can choose the order in which he/she wants to attempt the exam. At the end of each section, a Review screen is presented to identify the questions that are left incomplete or flagged for review while attempting the test. You can directly move to the specific question just by clicking on it.

Scaled scores in NMAT exam

Questions in the NMAT are presented to candidates from the pool of questions for each examinee based on his or her performance on the questions previously answered. The questions received by the candidate are in accordance with his or her ability level; this means, for instance more difficult sample of questions is received by high scoring candidate as compared to a low- scoring candidate. The scaled score in each section ranges from 12 to 120.

Difficulty Level

NMAT is of moderate difficulty level. It does not have negative marking. The test takers can expect a good score in NMAT exam.

One of the key attractions of NMAT exam is the facility to retake the exam in case the NMAT exam score in first attempt is not satisfactory. Each candidate has a chance to give the exam three times. You can view your results in 48 hours of appearing in the exam and then decide to apply to business school or retake the test depending on your comfort with the results you’ve obtained.

Ways to attempt the Exam

GMAC introduced two ways to take the test. One is the Centre Based Online test, and the other is the Online proctored test (Home-based).

How is Preparation for NMAT, SNAP, and CMAT different from CAT:

The preparation for NMAT and SNAP is quite similar to that of CAT. The exam is divided into 3 sections; General English consisting of topics like Reading Comprehension, Verbal Reasoning, Verbal Ability, Data Interpretation & Logical Reasoning, and Quantitative Aptitude. Its tests the candidate on these aspects and may include questions with varying level of difficulty. NMAT is more speed-based and is an easier nut to crack, but CAT has a higher level of difficulty. CMAT has an additional section; General Awareness which has equal weightage to the other 3 sections. So, a candidate must prepare well for the General Awareness section as it attracts a -0.25 penalty. The level of difficulty of CMAT is much easier than CAT, so if you have prepared well for CAT, you may appear for NMAT, SNAP, and CMAT with little extra effort.

Strategy for GK in CMAT – All other three sections in CMAT is more or less similar to what is there in CAT. In fact, the level of difficulty is much easier than that of CAT. In the past years it has been observed that CMAT asks questions related to static GK. In CMAT 2020 only 1 question was asked from current affairs. The difficulty level ranges from easy to moderate level of questions but the topics are diverse and less known. Hence, candidates need to prepare well for this section as it is the least time-consuming section and a good chance to score well.

Conclusion: With the information provided above, a candidate can make an informed choice about which exam they need to tackle as per the level of difficulty, number of colleges accepting the score, and their intake (based on the programs offered)

Coaching offers me personalized attention and a competitive environment. Because the preparation was so rigorous, I eventually began to perform at my best. The mock interviews/GD/WATs were conducted by anonymous panels, and it really boosted my confidence. Although I got a call from SCMHRD (SNAP-98.12), Abhijeet sir felt that I should try again and aim for IIM-A/B/C. It has been your pleasure to have been your mentor.

GMAT prep with MBAP was the best I've ever experienced. With Rohan Kulkarni Sir's Verbal Guidance, I scored 85th percentile in my GMAT exam as I was very weak in English. I always found Haider Sir and Abhijeet to answer my questions and to develop strategies and shortcuts to tackle GMAT problems for me. MBAP is a great option for GMAT and CAT prep.
