Logical Reasoning and Data Interpretation (LRDI) in CAT , XAT, SNAP or any other exam, is about analyzing and interpreting data and bringing it to a meaningful conclusion. The huge pile of data needs to be sanitized, categorized, and then simplified into some information that can help in decision making. Line Graphs are one of the important types in the Graphs and Tables category. Like any other problem on data interpretation, interpretation of graphs is the first step in solving line graph questions. Solving data interpretation practice questions and graph interpretation examples will boost confidence and help solve CAT line graph problems at ease.
LRDI in CAT, XAT, and other exams have questions on Line Graphs every year. A line graph will be given, you will have to analyze and extract information from that and answer the questions that follow.
There are two types in which Line Graph questions are prepared.
Simple Line Graph – Questions in this type has a Line Graph that depicts the data present in the question, and you are supposed to analyze the graph
Line Graph couple with other graphs –In this type, Line graphs are usually mixed with histograms or dot chart
Answer the following questions based on the information given below:
Telecom operators get revenue from transfer of data and voice. Average revenue received from transfer of each unit of data is known as ARDT. In the diagram below, the revenue received from data transfer as percentage of total revenue received and the ARDT in US Dollars (USD) are given for various countries.
(CAT 2008)
Q1. It was found that the volume of data transfer in India is the same as that of Singapore. Then which of the following statements is true?
Q2. It is expected that by 2010, revenue from data transfer as a percentage of total revenue will triple for India and double for Sweden. Assume that in 2010, the total revenue in India is twice that of Sweden and that the volume of data transfer is the same in both the countries. What is the percentage increase of ARDT in India if there is no change in ARDT in Sweden?
(1) 400% (2) 550% (3) 800%
(4) 950% (5) cannot be determined
Q3. If the total revenue received is the same for the pairs of countries listed in the choices below, choose the pair that has approximately the same volume of data transfer.
1. Philippines and Austria
2. Canada and Poland
3. Germany and USA
4. UK and Spain
5. Denmark and Mexico
Preparing any topic from the scratch requires patience, hard work, and above all commitment. Line Graphs are usually easy, to prepare for them follow the steps:
Level – 1
1. Extracting data from Line Graphs into a table consumes most of the time; speedy calculation tricks can help you analyze data in the table quickly. MBAP CAT E Book (Concept Theory) study material and MBAP Live Lecture Recording (Basic) on basic concept can help build the required skill set.
2. Fraction – Percentage relation: Most of the questions require approximate calculations, knowing the percentage – fraction conversion will help solve the problem quickly
3. Practice beginner level questions on Line Graphs using MBAP CAT E Book (Practise Questions) and MBAP lecture Assignment
Level – 2
1. Solve previous year questions on Line Graphs keeping the track of your time & performance.
2. MBAP Topic wise Previous Year CAT Question, can be utilized to enhance your performance
Level – 3
1. For advanced level preparation, start practising questions from “How to prepare for Data Interpretation” by Arun Sharma and MBAP Previous year CAT paper
2. Questions in the book are categorized into Level of Difficulty (LOD), based upon your preparation level, start attempting 3 or 4 questions daily from MBAP CAT Advance E books
