In November 1961, the Government of India founded IIM Calcutta as the first National Institute for Post-Graduate Studies and Research in Management. The B-school has gained a national reputation for delivering high-quality education in management and has played a pioneering role in professionalizing Indian management. It is ranked 3 in NIRF 2020 and has three crowns namely international AACSB, AMBA, and EQUIS accreditations, and is the only B-school with these three accreditations.

In 1975, the institute relocated to its current campus, occupying an area of 135 acres, is situated in Joka, on the outskirts of Kolkata, India.

General – The student must have a bachelor’s degree or equivalent, with at least 50% marks or equivalent Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA).

The shortlisted students have to go through 2 steps in the selection process
Step 1:
Written Assessment – In a time frame of 30 minutes, students are asked to write a short note (one article) on a given subject that may be relevant to current social, economic, and business affairs, or even sporting events. This consists of 10 points.
Step 2:
Personal Interview – A personal interview consisting of 2 or more panel judges takes place assessing the candidate on various criteria. This consists of 15 points.
The final selection of the candidate is done on a total aggregate score considering points from educational, work experience, written assessment, and personal interview.
