Lately, a lot of students are opting not to fill the NMAT exam. It is mainly because of the following two reasons: –
  1. The overall expense of giving NMAT is much more than other exams.
The fees for giving the NMAT exam is INR 2,000 (without late fees) and INR 2500 (with late fees). This is high as compared to other MBA entrances like CAT and SNAP. Apart from this, the number of colleges accepting NMAT scores are less. Because of these reasons, aspirants are reluctant to fill the NMAT form.
  2. Total intake of NMIMS Mumbai is High

NMIMS doesn’t have a fixed number of intakes for a particular year. They can admit 500 students for their core PGDM programs and this can go up to 570 in a particular year. Program wise intake at NMIMS is as follows: –

Name of ProgramNo. of Seats
2 Year MBA with any of the following specializations: Finance,
Marketing, Operations, Decision Sciences- NMIMS Mumbai
MBA HR – NMIMS Mumbai120
MBA in Pharmaceutical Management, Mumbai120
MBA – NMIMS Bengaluru240
MBA- NMIMS Hyderabad120
MBA – NMIMS Navi Mumbai120
MBA- Indore60
MBA Business Analytics, Mumbai120
MBA Digital Transformation, Mumbai60
Because of this, few students are unable to get good placements. Despite these reasons, NMIMS has not lost its charm. It can get good placements for all students with the average salary being 18.33 LPA. It is usually placed towards the end of tier- 1 colleges and not in tier- 2 colleges in rankings. This is due to the growth opportunities and returns on investment offered by NMIMS.

  3. Cost of living

Mumbai is an expensive city and the cost of living here is on the higher end. This is often another reason why several out station students don’t apply for the NMAT exam. This factor combined with the high fees of NMIMS discourages students to opt for NMIMS.

Reasons for taking admission in NMIMS

  • Learning and curriculum

Focusing on practical knowledge and experiential learning, NMIMS offers a dynamic curriculum. It has adopted the case-based method to provide real-life examples and knowledge to students. A distinguished faculty and interaction with industry experts provide personalized knowledge and training. The smart classrooms, wi-fi enabled campus, and well- equipped library aid in the learning process. There are several guest lectures organized and there is the ease of organizing these as the campus is very well situated in the heart of Mumbai.

  • Return on investment

The current fees of NMIMS are INR 18.5 lacs for the tuition and INR 5 lacs for boarding and lodging. The hostel fees are charged for students coming from outside of Mumbai. This brings the fees to a total of INR 22.5 lacs. The placements are decent and are usually around INR 18 LPA. Hence, it can be concluded that the ROI or return on an investment after NMIMS is good and should be considered while making a decision. The return on investment refers to the number of years that a student can expect to earn the investment made in MBA as fees and start saving as their earnings.

  • Opportunities

NMIMS has a great placement record with the average salary in 2020 records being INR 18.33 LPA. Apart from this, one of the deciding factors for joining any b- school is the alumni network. NMIMS has a strong alumni network. Also, a lot of case study competitions are invited to the college which provide learning opportunities as well as pre-placement interviews for internships and final placements. The college also has an approach to equip students with upcoming subjects for example learning a subject from the analytics field is mandatory for all.

  • Growth

Famous alumni of NMIMS comprise John Abraham, Bollywood actor; Richa Kar, CEO of Zivame; Vikas Behl, Bollywood director and Siddharth Sood, founder of Wildcraft. There is an emphasis on motivating students through guest lectures with notable figures such as Raghu Iyer, Shashi Tharoor, and Kiran Bedi. Students receive several opportunities to showcase their talent and also learn in the process by being a part of several clubs and committees and group projects.

  • Campus

Campus life at NMIMS is a luxury. It is located in the heart of Mumbai, the financial centre and economic powerhouse, and so attracts good companies for placements and summer internships. The other campuses are also located in prominent cities like Bangalore and Hyderabad. The Mumbai campus is beautiful and huge. There are several famous tourist spots and the chance to explore Mumbai.

In conclusion, NMIMS is a great option to pursue your MBA journey, especially if you get a chance to get admitted to PGDM Core or PGDM HR programs which are the highlights of NMIMS as an institute. It has proven its mettle over the years in giving ample growth opportunities and placement opportunities to students. Apart from this, the infrastructure, campus life, and faculty expertise offered are the best among b-schools. So, the reasons for not attempting NMAT should be overlooked as NMAT exam is towards the easier side as compared to other b-school entrance exams.

I wanted to join a coaching where I can get personalised attention and competitive environment. I got both in MBAP. All the preparation was so rigorous that I eventually started giving my best. They conducted mock interviews/GD/WAT with anonymous panels and trust me it was such a confidence booster. I got a call from SCMHRD (SNAP-98.12) However I always wanted to go for IIM and Abhijeet sir felt that and he convinced me to try again and aim for IIM-A/B/C. Here I am back under his mentorship again. In short give your best and they will bring the best out of you. P.S- I'm a working individual. If I can do it then anybody can. Thank you for being such a great mentors.

I joined MBAP for GMAT prep and my experience with them was really amazing, from the first day itself the faculties gave personal attention to each student and made sure each student had their own personalised GMAT and CAT prep plans. The Verbal faculty Rohan Kulkarni Sir was amazing, I was very weak in English and verbal section, but through his guidance I scored a V38 (85th percentile) in my GMAT exam. The Quant faculties Abhijeet and Haider Sir helped me develop strategies and short cuts to approach GMAT problems and we're always available for my doubts. Overall it was a great experience and I would reccomend MBAP to everyone for GMAT and CAT prep
