XAT or Xavier Aptitude Test, conducted by XLRI, Jamshedpur is a national level entrance test for MBA admission at XLRI and other premier institutes. It is conducted on the behalf of Xavier Association of Management Institutes (XAMI). Apart from XLRI, XAT score is accepted by premier institutes like XIMB (now known as XUB), IMT, IMI, XIME, and more than 150 other institutes. The scores have the validity of 1 year. There is no restriction on the number of attempts a person can give XAT exam.

How to prepare for XAT exam?

Keep in mind that XAT has a stricter marking scheme than CAT and some of the sections of the entrance exam is, much more difficult than those of CAT. Since there will be a lot of areas to cover in a short span of time, here is a list of essential steps which would bear the torch for a XAT aspirant to overcome the difficulty level and level up with other candidates in terms of speed and efficiency.

Identify the strong and weak areas: Analyze your strong areas and weak areas and make two separate lists of the units involved. Work on your areas of improvement which would help you gain more marks.
Revise your concepts:cTry to brush up your mathematical concepts and work on solving numerical as many as you can. QA (Quantitative Ability) is one of the toughest sections to clear and carries a good overall weightage in the overall examination. In addition, make it a habit to read every day, work on your grammar to furnish your enunciation and grasping speed and pay attention to current affairs to widen your horizon.
Take daily mocks: As XAT incorporates a native marking scheme of 0.25%, it is essential that you work on your accuracy to prevent yourself from the same. Mock analysis to help you pinpoint your mistakes way before the actual examination and simulate the exact way in which the exam is conducted to impart a sense of peer pressure in the heart of every candidate which reminds them of the grave competition and enriches their problem solving skills.

Important Dates

XAT 2022 will be conducted on Sunday, January 2, 2022. XLRI conducts XAT on behalf of XAMI. For more than 70 years XLRI is conducting XAT at all India level to select the most appropriate students for management education. The XAT score is being used by more than 160 institutes for the admission.

XAT Exam Pattern

The score of the General Knowledge section will not be used for the initial screening of candidates for the Group Discussion, Written Ability, and Personal Interview (GWPI) round. It will be used in later stages to assess the candidates’ knowledge.

XAT Marking Scheme

1 mark will be granted for each correct answer
0.25 mark will be deducted for each incorrect answer
0.10 mark will be deducted for eight unattempted questions
There will be no negative marking for the General Knowledge section

XAT exam details: Registration

Filling a XAT form is a few – step process:

Signup and Register – Visit the official website – https://xatonline.in/ and click on XAT registration, register using a valid email id, and create login credentials (username and password).
In case the candidate is unable to complete the application form in one go, he / she can save the data already entered by choosing “SAVE AND NEXT” tab. Prior to submission of the online application candidates are advised to use the “SAVE AND NEXT” facility to verify the details in the online application form and modify the same if required. Visually Impaired candidates should fill the application form carefully and verify the details to ensure that the same are correct prior to final submission.
Candidates are advised to carefully fill and verify the details filled in the online application themselves as no change will be possible/ entertained after clicking the FINAL SUBMIT BUTTON.
Name of the candidate or his /her Father’s name/ Mother’s name etc. should be spelt correctly in the application as it appears in the Certificates/ Mark sheets/Identity proof. Any change/alteration found may disqualify the candidature.
Candidates can proceed to Scan and upload Photo & Signature as per the specifications given in the Guidelines.
Candidates can proceed to fill Academic and Work experience details of the Application Form.
Click on the Preview Tab to preview and verify the entire application form before FINAL SUBMIT.
Modify details, if required, and click on “SUBMIT” ONLY after verifying and ensuring that the photograph, signature uploaded and other details filled by you are correct. ‘Applicant details can not be edited once the application form is submitted after payment.’
Select XLRI program as per your preference if you want to study in XLRI. (Through XAT or Through GMAT)
Select the XAT-Test City preference. Candidates can choose 2 preferred test cities while filling XAT Application form. Candidates are advised to choose test city closer to their city of residence. However, the final authority to allot the TEST CITY rests with authority. (You can edit the test city preference only once before November 30, 2021.)
Click on the “Payment” Tab and Proceed for payment.
Click on the “Submit” button.

Payment of Fees

XAT Registration Fee (without late fee) – Rs. 1800/-
Candidates interested in XLRI programmes need to pay an additional fee of Rs. 300/- each.
Indian candidates can apply through GMAT/GRE for Ex-PGDM whereas an NRI/Foreign national can apply through GMAT for all the programmes. Kindly note GRE scores are only valid for EX-PGDM.
Fee for Indian Candidates applying for Ex-PGDM through GMAT/GRE– Rs. 2500/-
Fee for NRI/Foreign Candidates applying for one or more programmes through GMAT– Rs. 5000/-
